AIMCAUK HISTORY
Graduates from Allama Iqbal Medical College have been serving the NHS for over twenty five years. Even-though of this fact there wasn’t a strong platform where they could represent themselves. Over the past ten years, many small groups of Iqbalians have been coming together at annual reunions and gala dinners, Dr Haris Rathur along with his friends took the initiative and arranged two successful reunions in 2005 and 2006.In 2010 Dr Irfan Rashid and Dr Ayesha Naveed restarted to arrange annual gatherings, which were strongly supported by other fellow Iqbalians. 2013 was a milestone year for this movement. The annual reunion held in London was well attended by Iqbalians. At this momentous gathering our senior Iqbalian Dr Ayaz Asghar suggested to form a structured platform for Iqbalians and proposed a name for us, AIMCAUK which was unanimously accepted by all Iqbalians present and AIMCAUK organising committee was formed, This is now our chosen identity within the UK. The first informal meeting of AIMCAUK was organised by Dr Ayaz Asghar, held in Bolton December 2013, alongside APPSUK annual dinner where it was decided to arrange 1st formal organising committee meeting of AIMCAUK at Sanam Restaurant Manchester on 28th of December 2013. This meeting was attended by Dr Ayaz Asghar , Idrees Awan , Usman Khan, Haris Rathur , Naveed Haq , Irfan rashid , Ayesha Naveed , Rabia Azam Zafar Hashim and Shakir Saeed. During this meeting Dr Ayaz Asghar was chosen as chief organiser and different sub committees as mentioned in our other section were formed.
The second AIMCAUK organising committee meeting was hosted by one of our senior iqbalian Dr Ishfaq Ahmad in Birmingham at his residence. This meeting was chaired by Dr Ayaz Asghar and attended by over fifteen committee members. On this occasion AIMCAUK’s constitution, membership, website, finance, annual family dinner in June 2014, teaching and mentorship were discussed in details. All the members attending that meeting contributed to the cost of website for AIMCAUK. Constitution committee lead by Dr Usman Khan,Dr Idrees Awan and Dr Ayaz Asghar met on 28 April 2014 in Birmingham and finalised the constitution for our Alumni. Event management committee finalised the Manzil Restaurant for the first annual AIMCAUK family dinner on 14th of June 2014. Website responsibility was given to Dr Irfan Rashid. Dr Ayaz Asghar worked hard and finalised this task. This is the first time in history that a strong Alumni have emerged in UK in the form of AIMCAUK to represent Iqbalians but it is still in its infancy, we are very keen to take advice and help from our mother institute as well as other fellow Iqbalians.
